Newport came early to shoot. Horrid rainy day.

Weston   1853, October 22

Directly after breakfast Lucy, Lina, Francey & I started in the ponycarriage for an expedition to Willey. A fine day with heavy showers, but we were lucky enough to miss them all but one. Enjoyed the day very much, there was nobody at Willey besides Selina & the Ansons except Mrs. Fane. Isabella sang to us. Both going & coming home were excessively puzzled at Coalport, with some game we had taken for George, but Newport's very oppor- tune appearance the second time (he was riding home) - helped us out of our difficulties. We also met George too going home. The Greaves's, Legges & Whitmores, Mr. C. Wrottesley & Cecil Lane all went away.

Weston   1853, October 23

The Newports went away. He to Heaton for Peppy Egertons marriage & she to Willey. Lord Bathurst also went away. I did not go out - have a bad cold. A party drove to Lilleshall. Frances, Louisa, Edward Legge came - also Mr. & Lady L. Cotes & Mr. Taylor. Played at bowls.

Weston   1853, October 24

Monday. The Bristowes went away & Papa & Lucy went to London to see Mary. Mr. C. Wrottesley called & had luncheon here. Johnny, George & I archered in the morning & in the afternoon Lady B., Letty, Georgey & I drove to Haughton - found no one at home. Georgey shopped in Shiffnal !

Weston   1853, October 25

The hounds in the Park nearly all day. They killed two foxes & Georgey & Francey each got a brush. Letty & I walked together in the morning. In the afternoon Lady B., Letty & I drove to Aqualate. Lady Boughey was out but Miss B. was in & we paid her a visit & were regaled with tea. We had not been there a 1/4 of an hour before Edmund arrived. He was going to stay there & had seen us pass at Newport when dying for a seat in any conveyance & could not make us see or hear, which must have veen very aggravating. Johnny went to Haughton.

Weston   1853, October 26

Georgey & I shot in the morning. Undertook the boys.

Weston   1853, October 27

Ditto. In the afternoon I again undertook the boys. Lady B. & Letty called on Mrs. Holyoake. Papa & Lucy came back from London.

Weston   1853, October 28

Rainy. I took all 3 boys a walk. Not well in the evening & could not go down to dinner.
